Viviane Sassen's first photography exhibition in Japan will be held at two G/P galleries in Tokyo.
Viviane Sassen is a Dutch photographer. She has appeared in fashion magazines such as Purple and Dazed & Confused, as well as campaigns for Miu Miu and Louis Vuitton. She has also produced numerous contemporary photographs set in her native South Africa. In 2011, she received the ICP Infinity Award from the International Center of Photography. In 2014, she held her solo exhibition "UMBRA" at the Nederlands Fotomuseum, drawing attention as one of the world's leading contemporary photographers.
In 2013, the GP + Triple G Gallery in Shinonome, Tokyo, exhibited "LEXICON," a reconstruction of Sassen's early works, with the cooperation of artistic director Massimiliano Gioni. This is a collection of 31 photographs taken in South Africa, exploring fundamental human emotions such as death, mourning, and the longing to connect with loved ones.

Meanwhile, GP Gallery in Ebisu, Shibuya Ward, is exhibiting original prints from his latest work, "PIKIN SLEE." Photographed during a stay in the village of the same name, deep in Suriname, the works capture the tranquil atmosphere of the villagers' daily lives. The works, primarily in black and white, break away from Sassen's signature vivid setups and offer a glimpse into a new realm of his.

Vivienne Sassen herself will also be visiting Japan, where a book signing and talk show for Sassen's photo book "LEXICON" will be held at the Ebisu gallery on October 4th.
