Isetan Men's "Black Watch" Tartan to be Redesigned in October. Porter and Mackintosh Limited Edition Items Also Included

Sep 9, 2014

This year marks the 46th anniversary of the opening of the Isetan Shinjuku Men's Building in 1968 as the "Men's New Building" and the 11th anniversary of its establishment as a Men's Building. To celebrate, on October 29th, the store will be relaunching its iconic "Black Watch" tartan pattern, rebranding it as "Black Watch/Isetan Men's." The new original design was created by designer Brian Wilton, who serves as a director of the Scottish Tartan Association and also as a tartan ambassador. In addition to the familiar three colors of green, blue, and black, a new color, a slightly yellowish red and crimson, a traditional Japanese color, has been added. The crimson represents the sun shining at the start of each day and the "sincerity" that is the character "tan" in Isetan's name. Just as when Isetan's tartan was rebranded as "Macmillan/Isetan" last fall, "Black Watch/Isetan Men's" will begin by weaving an original fabric, and the pattern will be officially registered with the Scottish Tartan Registry, a national registry established by Scotland to unify the world's tartans. Starting October 29th, a promotion will be held at The Stage on the first floor of the Isetan Shinjuku Main Building to celebrate the unveiling of "Black Watch/Isetan" and the first anniversary of the "Macmillan/Isetan" renewal. Limited-edition items featuring the new Black Watch pattern will be on display, including a PORTER tote bag, a MACKINTOSH rubberized coat, and HIROSHI TSUBOUCHI sneakers. Shoppers bearing the "Isetan Men's" brand logo will be available exclusively at the Shinjuku Men's Building and the Kyoto Isetan Men's Department Store. In addition, the men's area of Isetan stores (the department that currently uses "Black Watch" shoppers) will use ones with the "Isetan" logo.
