Ganryu deconstructs casual style, and the next approach is [16-17 AW Men's]

Feb 10, 2016

GUNRYU's 2016-2017 Autumn/Winter collection was unveiled on the 9th at IDOL in Minami-Aoyama, Tokyo. The designer was Fumito Ganryu.

The collection kicked off with a man wearing a full-body rigid denim outfit, complete with a coat in hand. The women's collection featured a denim jacket with duffle toggles and cutwork sarouel-style pants. A male model stood in the center of the runway, wearing a long robe coat made of the same material, wrapped around a full denim outfit, including a bow tie. The coat's large patch pockets were riveted, and the sleeves were rolled up wide.

The first look reconstructed denim work, a global trend, with GUNRYU's signature approach. The following looks featured Fair Isle knitwear, white shirts, and denim, showcasing a Tokyo-esque everyday story and casual perspective, all layered in a realistic way.

The collection incorporates market-oriented items such as vivid tricolor mohair knitwear and lightweight down jackets, incorporating the idea of "reconstruction" that draws on the Comme des Garçons tradition, including varsity jackets, MA1-style shirt jackets, Mondrian patterns, block checks, patchwork shirts made from dungarees, white layering, and zip-fly skirt pants.

As a notable brand that is frequently mentioned by overseas buyers as a newcomer to the Tokyo men's scene, along with Soloist and Facetasm, we are curious to see what their next approach will be in the rapidly changing global men's market.
