Maison Kitsuné opens new restaurant in Daikanyama, paying homage to Hotel Okura Tokyo

Feb 22, 2016

On February 20th, MAISON KITSUNE opened its third Japanese base, a street-level store in Daikanyama, Tokyo (located at 20-14 Sarugaku-cho, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo). The store, which was designed and completely overseen by Maison Kitsuné's Creative Director, Masaya Kuroki, pays homage to the Hotel Okura Tokyo, which Kuroki often visited when he visited Japan and which closed in August 2015 for reconstruction, much to the regret of many. The store's noren (traditional Japanese shop curtain) evokes a traditional Japanese atmosphere, with women's items on the first floor and men's items on the second. The bright and open white wood interior, lattice-patterned flooring, shoji screen windows, fitting rooms with sliding doors, and an outdoor bamboo garden all feature a distinctive Japanese aesthetic.

The store's fixtures range from original pieces such as lacquered tables to chairs that Kuroki, an antique lover, found overseas and chests of drawers that he adapted specifically for the store, all arranged to maintain a spacious atmosphere. Even the gravel that is spread out in front of the store was sourced by Kuroki himself, creating a store that is brimming with the aesthetics of Maison Kitsuné.

To commemorate the opening, the store is also selling a capsule collection, including a limited edition of 15 blousons.
