Asami Kiyokawa's 15th anniversary solo exhibition "ITOTOITO" will be held in Omotesando. All the works on display are new!

Feb 26, 2016

Artist Asami Kiyokawa's 15th anniversary solo exhibition, "ITOTOITO," will be held from April 2nd to May 25th at EYE OF GYRE on the third floor of GYRE in Omotesando, Tokyo.

The exhibition, commemorating her 15th anniversary as an artist, is an experimental solo exhibition featuring all new works. One of the works, "1:1," was created by inverting Instagram photos from positive to negative, printing them on thread, and then encasing them in acrylic or layering the thread on canvas.

Also new, "TOKYO Monster" is part of a series she has been presenting since 2014 that explores the essence of individuality and insecurities while looking back at Tokyo's fashion culture of the 1990s. For this exhibition, she has teamed up with Hosoo, a long-established Nishijin weaver known for its collaborations with brands such as Dior and Chanel, to weave photographs of today's young people with traditional Nishijin weaving. Also on display will be works based on fashion snaps from the 1990s, which were unveiled at the 2015 Milan Salone but have yet to be shown in Japan. Other works on display include "Our Story," an installation that depicts the creation of monsters (personalities) through drawings on parts of a pile of around 100 books.
