
"MEDIA AMBITION TOKYO 2016," showcasing cutting-edge technology art, will be held at various locations in Tokyo from February 26 to March 21.
"MEDIA AMBITION TOKYO" is a real-world showcase that implements cutting-edge technology culture with an experimental approach. This fourth edition will center around Roppongi, with cutting-edge art, video, music, performances, hackathons, talk shows, and more taking place in various locations throughout Tokyo, including Aoyama, Ginza, Iidabashi, Ochanomizu, Odaiba, and Tennozu.
"MAT LAB," a space for new urban experiments by artists and companies, will be held at Tokyo City View on the 52nd floor of Mori Tower in Roppongi Hills. A total of 11 works will be exhibited, including "The Mirror," which offers a new experience of self-awareness and physical sensations; the revolutionary electric prosthetic hand "handiii/HACKberry"; and "3D Laser Mist Hologram (tentative title)," a video experiment exploring 3D holograms. Additionally, from February 16th to 29th, "Everything is as it is," a visualization of bodily data by artist Douglas Diaz and Rhizomatiks Architecture, will be on display on the second floor of West Walk. From March 11th to 13th, Keyakizaka will relight Tatsuo Miyajima's "Counter Void," five years after it was first turned off on March 13th, 2011. Events that provoke reflection on future lifestyles and the state of humanity will be held. Other events include a screening of "Vessel," a video work by Kohei Nawa and Damien Jalet that connects the two worlds of undefined art and performing arts, at Warehouse Terrada in Tennoz; an office experience tour by teamLab in Suidobashi; an experiential art exhibition at Daikanyama T-Site; and cutting-edge motion lighting by Lexus in Aoyama. Talk events will also be held at each venue. Starting at 7pm on March 3rd, a talk event with Mizuguchi Tetsuya and Saito Seiichi titled "New Physicality of Digital and Real (tentative title)" will be held at Roppongi Hills. Starting at 7pm on March 15th, "New Horizons of Expression Opened Up by Human Sensibility and Technology (tentative title)" by Hirakawa Norimichi and Tanigawa Junji will also be held. Starting at 4pm on March 13th, a total of seven talk events will be held in various locations around Tokyo, including "What the Passage of Time Brings to Art (tentative title)" by Miyajima Tatsuo, Nawa Kohei, and Tanigawa Junji.
The event periods vary depending on the work, and some require an admission fee to view.
