Each bookstore will act as a concierge, recommending "the book you should read now" to FASHION HEADLINE readers. Every Thursday, each branch of the art bookstore "NADiff" will introduce a book they recommend. This time, we will be introducing the book recommended by NADiff Contemporary, a branch in Kiyosumi Shirakawa, Tokyo (located inside the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo, 4-1-1 Miyoshi, Koto-ku, Tokyo).
■ "Kaneuji Teppei's Square Liquid, Metallic Record: Tracing the Raw"
"Performing arts" and "Rinpa" - the cross-disciplinary nature of genres. And what does "raw" mean today? -
"Square Liquid, Metallic Memory," a solo exhibition by contemporary artist Kaneuji Teppei, was held in the fall of 2014 as part of the official program of the Kyoto International Performing Arts Festival and was met with rave reviews. This book, a collection of photographs by five photographers, including Ume Kayo, Kawashima Kotori, and Patrick Tsai, documented the exhibited works and the performances that took place there. Kim, who has previously worked with Toshiki Okada and theater companies, tackled two themes with little relation: "performing arts" and "Rinpa," a school of art that also served as a 400th anniversary project. From live paintings by Yuichi Yokoyama and others tracing the "Wind God and Thunder God" painting to a live music performance by Oorutaichi dressed as the wind god and thunder god, Kim describes the process of constructing the entire space as performing arts as "more of an extension of collage techniques, or perhaps based on a new concept of sculpture." Furthermore, by compiling performing arts into a book and reaching many people who were not present at the venue, the book reexamines the meaning and value of being "live" and "on-site." What was Kim's bold endeavor? We invite you to experience it alongside his photographs, which exude a lively atmosphere. Each volume comes with a different "raw" doodle!
