Dior has unveiled the campaign visuals for its 2015-16 Autumn/Winter collection. The repeat show held at the National Art Center, Tokyo on June 16th drew much attention. The runway featured pieces evoking a wild and powerful feminine image, including dark animal print dresses evocative of the Amazon and savannah, as well as masculine suit looks. Incidentally, animal print, a pattern first used in the brand's first collection in 1947, is one of the brand's iconic patterns, along with florals. Designer Raf Simons' modern reinterpretation of it is a sign of respect for his house. The visuals are set against a rugged natural backdrop, resonating with the pieces. "My childhood home was on a cliff and exposed to the most extreme weather," founder Christian Dior quoted him in his autobiography. The sight of women dressed in fur dresses and high-leg animal print boots standing on the headland of Granville in Normandy, France, his hometown, is powerful yet feminine, the very image of sensual and unique women.
The photographs were taken by Belgian photographer Willy Vanderperre, who has previously worked on Dior campaigns. Through his lens, the new Dior woman is expressed.
