The latest issue of VICE MAGAZINE, a free magazine released in 25 countries worldwide, was distributed in Japan on August 7th for the first time in two years.
The issue features a novel theme and stunning visuals that are hard to believe are from a free magazine. The 96-page issue maintains the identity of the magazine since its launch in 1994, but is presented with a unique Japanese perspective under the title "THE MUSIC ISSUE."
The lead feature, "20 Keywords that Changed the Music Scene," captures the transformation of the music scene through unique keywords such as musicians like Ian MacKaye and Wu-Tang Clan, politicians, labels, junk food, live music venues, security guards, bitch rap, and criminals.
The "VICE MUSIC PHOTO ARCHIVES" section also features photographs of the music scene captured through intimate interviews. The issue features artist photos by photographers such as Jurgen Taylor, Ricky Powell, and Tim Barber of artists including Luvana, A$AP Rocky, Black Flag, Beastie Boys, Patti Smith, and Bjork. Other features include a "VICE COVER STORY" chronicling the magazine's history, and a special feature on "Red Bull Thre3Style," a DJ event with a global championship taking place in September. This issue is sure to generate controversy, with questions like, "Who's on the cover anyway?", "Why does junk food create new ideas?", and "Why will bitch rap save the world's kids?"
