The beauty of color seen in the contrast between fresh produce and artificial objects. Wolfgang Tillmans' photo collection [Shelf Recommended Book]

Each bookstore acts as a concierge, recommending "the book you should read now" to FASHION HEADLINE readers. Today, we'll be introducing books selected by Shelf (3-7-4 Jingumae, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo), a Harajuku bookshop that specializes in foreign books.

■ "Fespa Digital / Fruit Logistica"

         Wolfgang Tillmans

This is a collection of photographs taken by photographer Wolfgang Tillmans when he visited Fruit Logistica, the international trade fair for fresh fruit and vegetables held in Berlin, Germany, and FESPA Digital, a trade fair for digital prints.

Trade fairs are filled with opposing elements - fresh food and hand-made prints - but what Tillmans found at both venues was that they were all colorful and beautiful, yet also grotesque and crazy. By arranging them side by side in the book, natural colors begin to look artificial and artificial colors begin to look natural.
