Pharrell Williams, who thrilled the crowd as he headlined Summer Sonic 2015, attended the adidas Originals party "CELEBRATION PARTY TOKYO by Pharrell Williams & YOON" on August 17th, the day after his concert, and once again lit up the Tokyo night.
Pharrell and adidas Originals are currently running the global campaign "#OriginalSuperstar - Pay It Forward" worldwide. Based on Pharrell's philosophy of "Superstar creates for an audience of one," five "superstar" creators personally selected by Pharrell portrayed "true superstars" through photography, song, and art. The five creators selected by Pharrell will then nominate the next superstar, who will then select the next superstar... This ambitious project aims to spread creativity around the world. The party was held to commemorate the launch of a project titled "SUPERSTAR PLAYGROUND," in collaboration with YOON, one of the "superstar" creators selected by Pharrell as the Japanese expansion of "#OriginalSuperstar - Pay It Forward." YOON expressed the message she received from Pharrell in her own way through the party. A variety of playful performances were held based on the "PLAYGROUND" concept created by YOON, including performance art by Kazuhisa Okuda and KAZ, music selections by DJ DARUMA (PKCZ) & JOMMY and Lucas Valentine, and dance by animation dancer Kikky and the dance unit NUMBERS. A DJ set was set up in the center of the venue, playing Pharrell's smash hit "Happy" and DAFT PUNK's "Get Lucky," on which he contributed vocals, creating a club-like atmosphere. However, looking elsewhere, a display booth for the recently released "Supershell" collection, featuring art on the Superstar's toes, and a relaxing space with swings hanging from the ceiling and piles of cushions created a uniquely YOON "play space." As the party drew to a close, Pharrell took the stage. He delivered a message to the approximately 700 attendees: "Creativity is simply about continuing to create and thinking outside the box." The excitement in the venue reached a fever pitch. He also commented on the "SUPERSTAR PLAYGROUND" project, which will be launched in Japan. "Being creative means continuing to move forward with your own ideas. I wanted to convey that to everyone in Japan, and I'm very happy I was able to do so," he said, expressing his hopes for a chain reaction of creativity spreading throughout Japan.
YOON and Mr., an artist who participated in "Supershell," also took the stage. They talked about their meeting with Pharrell and what it means to them to be a "true superstar."
