Mikio Sakabe celebrates its 10th anniversary with a pop-up at Konten in Ginza with buyer Yukiko Yuzawa!

Oct 22, 2016

MIKIO SAKABE will open a pop-up shop in the promotional space of CONCENTO PARIS H.P.FRANCE's Ginza store from October 24th to November 1st in collaboration with Paris-based buyer Yukiko Yuzawa. The pop-up shop will sell items from the brand's 2016-2017 Autumn/Winter collection, which has become a representative Tokyo brand, as well as exhibit the 2017 Spring/Summer collection, which will be unveiled at Tokyo Collection starting October 17th. Also on sale will be specially commissioned items (priced at ¥30,000) inspired by the brand's yellow color, as well as accessories designed for MIKIO SAKABE's first collection. HEAVENTANUDIREDJA, also celebrating its 10th anniversary, will also be participating, selling limited-edition handmade items made with vintage materials. Yukiko Yuzawa, who is in charge of buying at Concent Paris H.P. FRANCE, said, "The presentation of Mikio Sakabe's first collection, held at the Belgian Embassy in Paris, completely overturned my own ideas as a member of the import generation. I remember that the long, sparkling velvet jacket with its long lapels was so beautiful that I decided to buy it on the spot. I later heard that he graduated from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp with honors, which made sense. Since then, each season's collection theme is based on his philosophy, which he has observed Japanese culture with keen insight. It could be said that this is the history of Japanese youth culture. For Concent, Mikio Sakabe's work has been combined with BUYER'S SEYE, carefully selecting each piece and then having customers purchase them. For the past 10 years, this has been a phenomenon. Why have two seemingly different elements, Mikio Sakabe and Concent, continued for 10 years? I hope that you will explore this question."
