"Marie Antoinette: The True Story of the Queen of France Told Through Artworks," a scenic exhibition curated by the Palace of Versailles, will be held at the Mori Arts Center Gallery in Roppongi until February 26, 2017. She was captivated by Paris's glamorous fashions and became obsessed with style, but then immersed herself in the "country life" she longed for at her private villa, the Petit Trianon. While living like a bird in a cage, Marie Antoinette struggled as a mother raising her child, fell in love with a count, and enjoyed life to the fullest. Her true nature, hidden behind the powerful impact of her guillotine execution as a frivolous and extravagant queen, is revealed in this work, which is carefully crafted to bring her closer to the viewer. Perhaps it was precisely because she maintained her exceptional aesthetic sense and elegance until the very end that she has been so popular, and has been chosen as the subject of countless plays, films, and manga. Marie Antoinette's contributions to French cultural history are significant. It's even said that she popularized the rose scent she loved, replacing the previously common musk scent. Not only are the exhibits captivating, but the cute souvenirs are also not to be missed. There are a variety of lovely goods that will tickle the hearts of young girls, including the "Marie Antoinette Collection," including Ladurée's macaron box (3,575 yen including tax), which is only available at the venue, and Ameya Eitaro's lip gloss-shaped candy "Sweet Lip" (3 varieties, 756 yen each including tax).
