Kosuke Tsumura presents original float and shrine maiden costume at "TRANS ARTS TOKYO 2016"

Oct 27, 2016

Designer Kosuke Tsumura will unveil his original float and shrine maiden costume at "TRANS ARTS TOKYO 2016," held in Kanda on October 29th. Tsumura participated last year with the concept of "wearing a building."

The event, an art event that began in 2012, is now in its fifth year. This year, numerous artists will participate in the event, which will be held from October 15th to 30th at various venues within a two-kilometer radius of northeastern Tokyo, including Yanesen, Yushima, Hongo, Ueno, Jimbocho, Akihabara, and Kanda.

This time, Kosuke Tsumura will be participating in the Goju-ichi-hachi Creative Project "Artist Float," which will be held around Goju-dori Street in Kanda Nishikicho. Tsumura himself will be playing the role of Shinto priest, carrying his own original float, "Yume Yume Shrine," and an original shrine maiden costume. Offerings will be donated to the disaster-stricken areas through the project. Other participants in the event include Takuya Wakabayashi & Tsubamesha Architects.

Ringing the bells, a mix of old and new, hanging around the four sides of Yume Yume Shrine will send dreams to the future. Modern nomadic communication devices traveling on floats will tour the Goju-dori area of Kanda Nishikicho on Saturday evening.

Kosuke Tsumura was primarily involved with the Paris Collection under Issey Miyake, and in 1994 he came up with FINAL HOME, urban survival wear that embodied the idea that "the ultimate home is clothing." He won the Soen Award in 1982, the runner-up prize at the Contemporary Japanese Art Exhibition in 1992, and the Newcomer Award at the Mainichi Fashion Grand Prix in 1994.
