Photographer Masahisa Fukase's new photo book, "Afterword," featuring his beloved cat, Sasuke, will be published by roshin books on November 15th. Known as a cat lover, Fukase published three cat-themed photo books during his lifetime: "Viva! Sasuke," "Sasuke!! My Dear Cat," and "The Cat's Straw Hat." This new photo book features works from the "Sasuke Diary" at the end of "Sasuke!! My Dear Cat." Sasuke, whom Fukase fell in love with after his divorce from his wife and published three photo books about him, is as famous in the photography world as Araki's Chiro-chan. However, this Sasuke is actually the second one. The original Sasuke, which Fukase first inherited from photographer Yutaka Takanashi, suddenly disappeared while Fukase was away, likely due to the meanness of his landlord. So, Fukase posted missing-person notices in all directions, and received a call saying, "This could be Sasuke." He prepared a glass of whiskey as a token of appreciation and waited for Sasuke. However, the kitten that appeared before him was a slightly uglier version of the original. However, Fukase apparently began calling it Sasuke and taking it with him wherever he went. This time, a photo book featuring small, L-sized photographs of Sasuke, the subject of a "Sasuke Diary," and accompanying handwritten text by Fukase, was produced. Katsuya Kato served as designer, and Keizo Kumakura served as printing director. The binding has a texture reminiscent of cat fur, and the edges are roughly cut like a cat's claw sharpener. Within two weeks of preorders beginning, 700 of the 900 copies have already been sold to bookstores worldwide and directly to individuals. In Japan, it is available at the official Roshin Books website (http://www.roshinbooks.com/afterword.html), as well as at Shashasha, Daikanyama T-Site, Aoyama Book Center, Blind Books, and Hohohoza.
