On October 27th, ISETAN The Japan Store Kuala Lumpur, a new specialty store dedicated to bringing Japanese lifestyles and unique tastes to the world, opened within LOT10 Kuala Lumpur, a Malaysian subsidiary of Isetan Mitsukoshi. The store offers authentic Japanese experiences, incorporating Japanese history, culture, technology, diversity, and lifestyles into the daily lives of people overseas. The six-story store features over 200 first-time brands, offering a wide selection of high-quality items from Japan and other regions. The store's design was handled by Noritaka Tange, president and CEO of Tange Associates, Inc., and Yasumichi Morita, president and CEO of GLAMOROUS Co., Ltd., who also handled the environmental design for the redevelopment of the Isetan Shinjuku flagship store. Breaking away from the traditional department store format, the store features a strolling Japanese garden with a gazebo, a first for an overseas store. The first floor will showcase fashion culture and include an information space for Asian fashion enthusiasts. The second floor will introduce the beautiful and healthy Japanese lifestyle. The third floor will feature three zones—"Feel," "Learn," and "Create"—proposing Japanese culture that stimulates the mind and body. The fourth floor will house a space for savoring Japanese cuisine, featuring approximately six restaurants offering a wide variety of Japanese cuisine, including sushi, yakitori, tonkatsu, and yakiniku. The restaurant floor is scheduled to open around January 2017. A special opening event, "trans-kyoto," will run until the end of November, showcasing Kyoto, the ancient capital that continues to combine tradition and innovation. Each floor will feature collaborations and events featuring people and products who respect tradition while creating the next generation, presented with a unique perspective and editorial expertise. Additionally, the third floor, the main content area, will feature new photos by Mika Ninagawa, specially photographed for the event.
