[LOOK] Giorgio Armani holds his first collection in front of an audience in about a year and four months. The theme for Spring/Summer 2022 is "Return to the Roots."

Jun 28, 2021
The Giorgio Armani Spring/Summer 2022 Men's Collection was held on the evening of June 21st, Milan time. Held on Via Borgonuovo in Milan, the brand's historic site, this show marked the first time an audience was present in approximately one year and four months.

In this Spring/Summer 2022 Men's Collection, designer Giorgio Armani once again explores clothing that liberates from architectural constraints, a nonchalant approach rather than casualness, and a return to classicism as a sign of progress. He objectively observed the era in which we live and how various lifestyles are increasingly moving away from formality.

While he constantly incorporates new sensibilities gleaned from these social trends, he also designs with a conscious awareness of elegance and appropriateness. For example, even the cropped Bermuda shorts, which may at first glance appear casually designed, are carefully crafted to ensure that the bare legs visible through them do not appear overly liberated.

The venue for this collection was Borgonuovo 21, where the brand first established its atelier. A total of 77 looks (including some for women, 63 for men) were presented against the backdrop of a vibrant green courtyard. Starting with a navy jacket style, the collection included Bermuda shorts styled in a variety of outfits, including summer knitwear with a plant motif, shirts, T-shirts, and vests, a bomber-style zip-up blouson with a pocket on the chest, all-white and all-navy sets, and concluding the collection with a new dress look as an alternative to a tuxedo, paired only with a sleek stand-collar shirt.

A cool grey checked suit with no collar and a wrinkled finish is accented with a small V-zone tie. There are also many variations on suits and complete sets, such as a micro herringbone four-button navy double-breasted jacket paired with a V-neck striped T-shirt, worn open at the front. A new coordination proposal features a stand-collar shirt paired with dart pants made from the same pinstripe wool and a top cut like a denim jacket. Bermuda shorts are paired with a gilet to resemble a jacket.

Materials that evoke the feeling of ultimate lightness were used throughout the collection. These extremely light, weightless materials create styles that are understated and effortless, and flow smoothly to the body. Additionally, sporty looks made with high-quality materials appeared throughout the show, being dynamic, comfortable, and bold.

The color palette was made up of navy blue, sand, and chalk white, with pops of red and green accents that evoke the colors of nature, but each color created a flowing harmony.
