■Try SUP, a fun activity for the whole family!
This time, we chose "stand-up paddle surfing" (SUP). SUP is a beach sport that originated in Hawaii, where you stand on a special surfboard and paddle around the ocean. To try SUP, we headed to the Chigasaki Main Branch of GODDESS, a surf shop in Chigasaki. This long-established Shonan shop stocks everything you need for surfing, from surfboards to surfwear. Professional surfers also offer surfing and SUP lessons. Everything from boards to wetsuits and rash guards is available for rent! They even have kids' wetsuits, which is a plus. They also have hot showers, so you can enjoy marine activities without having to bring anything with you. This time, JPSA-certified professional surfer Yuji Yanagisawa was our instructor, teaching our two how to SUP.
■Haru-kun's big adventure in the ocean!
Patricio enjoys surfing in his private time as well. Today he's heading out to sea on a SUP with his always cool dad!
With Haru leading the way, we rowed further and further out to sea. At first he was a little scared, but he gradually got used to it and his expression relaxed. Leaning against his dad's legs, it felt like he was on an adventure on a big boat! Haru was gradually getting used to it. In the second half, he smiles like this.
With an instructor nearby to give you guidance, even beginners can try SUP with peace of mind. Why not give it a try this summer as it's a casual and enjoyable marine sport?
