The film "The Two Eameses," which explores the creations and true nature of the 20th century's leading designers, the Eameses, is set to be released

Jan 29, 2013

The documentary film "The Two Eameses: Architect Charles and Painter Ray" will be released on May 11, 2013. When most people think of the Eames, the first thing that comes to mind is the "Eames Chair." The Eameses are truly representative designers of the 20th century, creating the chair's beautiful curves. Ray Kaiser, who aspired to be a painter, and Charles Eames, an architect who was married at the time they met, founded the Eames Office, which continued to produce a wide range of works beyond furniture, including toys, architecture, and film. This film uses dynamic camerawork to capture the Eames Office and its diverse works. What was the office like, described by the film's cast as "circus-like" and "Disneyland-like," despite the turbulent times of World War II and the Cold War? The film conveys the couple's unique creative world through scenes of them joyfully experimenting in monochrome, and the Eames chair and office, decorated in pop colors.

At the same time, the Eameses were known for placing great importance on their private lives. The film also features staff and family members who worked in the office at the time, and offers a glimpse into the couple's true selves through photographs and letters revealed for the first time since their deaths.

"Even when new technology was needed, they learned it themselves, rather than relying on outsiders" (Eames Dimitrios, "The Eames 101: The Design of Charles and Ray Eames"). This film is filled with the couple's lifestyle and commitment as designers.
