Fashion designer An Vandervorst was born on July 25, 1968, in Antwerp, Belgium. She is the founder of the fashion brand A.F. Vandervorst.

While studying at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, Belgium, she met Filip Arickx, who would become her partner both professionally and personally. After graduating in 1991, she interned at Martin Margiela and served as first assistant at Dries Van Noten for six years.

In 1998, she founded A.F. Vandervorst with Philippe and presented her first collection in Paris. In 1999, she was awarded the Venus de la Mode Prize by Paris Fashion Week.

In addition to his own brand, in 2000 he was selected as the designer for the Italian leather brand Ruffo Research, and in the same year he designed the costumes for Susan Sontag's opera Alice in Bed. Since 2009 he has been running the limited-time shop project GUERILLA STORE AKTION.

When he visited Japan in 2007, he gave a lecture to students of Bunka Fashion Graduate University at L'Eclaireur (now Valvito 81) in Aoyama, Tokyo.
