[SMALL TALK by Niky] Collage is a puzzle with infinite answers

Jul 6, 2013

Hello!

I've been working on a lot of music projects lately. I love working in the music industry.

Today, I'd like to introduce a live poster I finished last week for a young five-piece band from Amsterdam called "NOSOYO." I created a collage using photos of the band members' faces.

When I make a collage, I listen to their music and first paint the emotions I feel in response to their music using color. I test the composition with their faces, or cut the paintings into various shapes and combine them.

I don't have much space to work on the collages on a table, so I work on the floor. Until the project is finished, the studio floor is covered in paper.

In my case, when I create a piece that I've carefully thought out and planned, it usually ends up straying from my intuition and not being satisfying.

I tend to overthink things, so I try to create my work by not making drafts, allowing my hands to move freely and intentionally not using my brain.

When I make a collage, there is no end in sight, and sometimes I get lost and get quite anxious, but that's what makes it fun for me, and it's a process that allows me to create works that are closer to my heart than my head.

Check out the band's music here! http://nosoyo.net/
