Onitsuka Tiger, a Japanese fashion brand, offers contemporary collections that blend fashion and sports, heritage and innovation. Onitsuka Tiger is releasing a cross-border collaboration with Doi Tung, a major project of the Thai non-profit organization Mae Fah Luang Foundation.
Doi Tung has earned immense trust in Thailand for its sustainable initiatives, and by combining this with the global trend toward sustainability, Onitsuka Tiger has realized a collaboration that benefits both people and the planet.
The three models being offered are MEXICO 66, MEXICO 66 PARATY, and SERRANO, which primarily use handwoven fabrics produced locally by Doi Tung. The shoes are made with sustainable materials, using environmentally friendly processes. The design is based on patterns carefully selected from traditional collections, and the yarn is spun into handwoven textiles, which take a week for the pattern to emerge. Compared to machine-woven textiles, the texture is softer and the pattern is more delicate. The red and blue coloring is reminiscent of the tricolor color used in the Onitsuka Tiger stripe.
The upper fabric of the Thailand-exclusive "MEXICO 66" model uses yarn made from 100% recycled PET bottles. The monotone color base and textile embroidered with the logo and tiger pattern create a chic atmosphere. The red and yellow on the sole are the key colors of both Doi Tong and Onitsuka Tiger.
This collaboration between traditional handwork by local staff and Onitsuka Tiger's signature model is also a collaboration that spreads employment and social contribution activities, and when worn, these sneakers have a story to tell, representing Thai culture and nature, as well as friendship with Japan.
They will be available from May 24th at Onitsuka Tiger Omotesando, Onitsuka Tiger Osaka Shinsaibashi, Onitsuka Tiger Kobe, and on the e-commerce site.
