Ginza Mitsukoshi will be holding an event titled "Creating a Bee Village on a Ginza Rooftop!" from October 28th to November 3rd at the Ginza Terrace/Terrace Court on the 9th floor of the store.
This event is part of the "Living with Bees in a Green City!" project, which began beekeeping on the rooftops of buildings in the Ginza district in 2006 with the aim of "coexistence between the city and the natural environment." The event will feature a panel exhibition on the project's activities, as well as seminars and hands-on workshops.
The panel exhibition will feature displays of hives and beekeeping equipment, an introduction to the ecology of bees and rooftop farms, and information on contributing to the environment through CO2 reduction and other initiatives. On October 31st, a seminar and experience session titled "Living with Bees in a Green City!" will be held. The seminar will cover the ecology and charm of bees, and explain how to create farms on rooftops and walls where bees gather to collect nectar and pollen. There will also be a tasting of honey collected around the Imperial Palace, and a rooftop farming experience, including picking herbs in the herb garden where bees gather. (Sessions will run from 11:00 AM, 1:00 PM, and 3:00 PM on the same day, each lasting approximately one hour.) According to the store, this event will help raise awareness of urban bees, and by increasing the number of rooftop farms, which are like "little pockets of nature," they hope to contribute to the local environment by restoring biodiversity, reducing CO2 emissions, and lowering city temperatures.
