©Ulysse FrechelinThe Tambour Moon Flying Tourbillon Poinçons de Genève Sapphire Crystal—a new model that embodies the mastery of Louis Vuitton watchmaking. Its defining feature is its case, carved from a single block of sapphire crystal. This completely transparent case—unprecedented even in the history of Poinçons de Genève watchmaking—houses a flying tourbillon, a technical and artistic feat that allows viewers to see every minute detail of the intricately open-worked manufacture movement.

The Tambour Moon Flying Tourbillon Poinçon de Genève Sapphire Crystal embodies the unparalleled innovation and meticulous craftsmanship of the Maison's watchmaking atelier, La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton.
The atelier is currently exploring the possibilities of synthetic corundum, a crystal created by transforming aluminum oxide at temperatures exceeding 2000°C to create a crystal identical to natural sapphire. Although used for over half a century as crystal for timepieces, synthetic corundum, first used in watch cases in 1996, is a 100% biocompatible material that has been rarely used until now, despite its numerous advantages. Its high hardness (9 on the Mohs scale) makes it difficult to carve from a block and work with. However, its exceptional optical clarity provides all the necessary qualities to showcase the movement's details and technical prowess without causing distortion.

©Ulysse FrechelinThis is a new gem in high watchmaking, guaranteed to spark a frenzy among watch enthusiasts. This skeletonized watch generously reveals every detail of its meticulously openworked movement—an extraordinary mechanical movement featuring automatic winding, an 80-hour power reserve, and a flying tourbillon housed in a delicate Monogram flower-adorned cage.
Engineers at La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton individually carve each cylinder (50 mm in diameter, 150 mm in length) from a solid block of synthetic sapphire crystal (weighing over 200 kg). Using the same cylinder, the caseback, case back, and bridge adorning the LV inscription are crafted to ensure the same color on every cut. Using diamond-polished stones, shaping these three components requires 250, 110, and 60 hours of meticulous work, respectively.
The indexes engraved on the outside of the concave middle case and the 12 grooves reading "L-O-I-U-S V-U-I-T-T-O-N" are painted with colored lacquer. The case back, which is screwed along the perimeter of the sapphire, features a transparent joint. This invisible part ensures the 30m water resistance common to all Louis Vuitton High Watchmaking timepieces.
This new model, presented by the Atelier as part of the "Tambour Moon" collection, demonstrates the exceptional technical skill of the Maison's watchmakers through an exquisite balance between aesthetic and mechanical excellence.

In taking on the new material of synthetic sapphire, La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton has adopted a case inspired by the arc of a crescent moon, modeled after the Tambour Moon watch released in 2017. Behind the transparency, hardness, soft feel and sensational lightness of this material lie the extraordinary technical challenges that were overcome to create this case. The Tambour Moon Flying Tourbillon Poinçons de Genève Sapphire Crystal is available in three versions: a colorless version with black PVD-coated titanium lugs, a blue sapphire version with platinum (PT950) lugs, and a pink sapphire version with 18K pink gold lugs. Their unmistakable transparency allows every detail of the caliber to be seen from every angle. This is the first sapphire timepiece to be adorned with the Hallmark of Geneva, considered the highest guarantee of origin, craftsmanship, and precision in the watch industry. To receive this seal, every component of the timepiece must be made in the Canton of Geneva and by the finest watchmakers. Additionally, every timepiece must pass several tests to earn this most prestigious certification in the world of watchmaking.
Both a work of art and an extraordinary instrument of time, the Tambour Moon Flying Tourbillon Poinçon de Genève Sapphire Crystal is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity issued by the Geneva Hallmark Office and bearing the owner's name.
