On July 26th, Atomi Women's University in Saitama Prefecture will hold "ATOMI GIRLS COLLECTION 2015 vol.5," a reuse fashion show planned, produced, and run by students at the Hanakei Memorial Hall on its Niiza campus.

Amid growing concern over mass production and consumption of clothing due to the influence of fast fashion, reuse has gained attention in the fashion industry in recent years, with well-known manufacturers and department stores offering used clothing collection and trade-in services, as well as barter events.

"ATOMI GIRLS COLLECTION" has been held annually since 2011 to raise awareness of current issues and initiatives surrounding fashion. This year, marking its fifth anniversary, 15 second-year students from the seminar of Associate Professor Yuri Yokoi of the Department of Life Environment Management, who is also active as a fashion journalist, will be working on the show.

The theme of this show is "20th Century Fashion is Exciting!" The students will collect clothes worn by their grandmothers and mothers and use styling and hair and makeup to express three different fashion eras: 1960s pop elegance, 1970s hippie style, and 1980s power chic.
Under the guidance of professional stylists and hair and makeup instructors, the students will be responsible for everything from show planning and management to direction, video production, flyer production, hair and makeup, model appearances, and stage lighting. A student from the seminar commented, "We want to show that even old clothes from our mothers' generation can be worn cutely with a little ingenuity."
