Franck Muller's wisdom and outstanding technology come together to create a groundbreaking timepiece with a tourbillon located in the center of the dial.

Apr 28, 2021

Master of Complications Franck Muller has unveiled the Grand Central Tonneau Curvex, a new venture into the Grand Complication, a watch that is the brand's signature.

The watchmaking wisdom and exceptional skills of Franck Muller Watchland have been brought together to create this groundbreaking timepiece, featuring a tourbillon at the center of the dial.

One of the complex challenges in realizing this model was the fact that shifting the tourbillon to the center of the watch required a complete rethinking of the watch itself. This required an innovative mechanism that would both achieve the fascinating and surprising feat of shifting the tourbillon and display the time in the center of the watch. After extensive development and trials, an innovative method was devised to position the hour and minute hands around the outer periphery of the tourbillon cage, further enhancing the beauty of this model.

Unusually for a Franck Muller Grand Complication, the Grand Central Tonneau Curvex is equipped with an automatic movement, with a micro-rotor providing a power reserve of approximately four days.

To accommodate this beautiful central tourbillon, Franck Muller redesigned the case form of its signature Tonneau Curvex collection. The sapphire crystal glass extends to the strap, significantly improving dial visibility. Furthermore, the bezel and case are separate parts, resulting in a beautiful two-tone finish.

The redesign gives the watch a new look that is different from the original Tonneau Curvex, while still fully expressing the elegant beauty of its three-dimensional curves. The bezel has also been designed to be slim, allowing the entire dial to be seen. This technical challenge was achieved, and a new, modern lineup has been created with the classic Tonneau Curvex case.

The open-worked case back allows you to admire traditional ornamentation such as the Côtes de Genève.
