UNIQLO Asakusa opens on May 28th! The store's iconic key visual is based on "Senjafuda" (paper charms).

Apr 26, 2021
UNIQLO will open "UNIQLO Asakusa" on May 28th. The store will be located on the first and second floors of the Tokyo Rakutenchi Asakusa Building, a complex in Tokyo's Asakusa district, a popular tourist spot both within Japan and overseas. This new, large-scale store, renovating the Asakusa area and replacing the existing UNIQLO store, will allow customers to experience LifeWear. The concept for UNIQLO Asakusa is "Our Neighborhood!" The store aims to be beloved by the local community and grow alongside them. The store's iconic key visual features a "senjafuda" (a traditional Japanese paper charm) motif, evocative of the Asakusa area. Additionally, advertising materials such as point-of-purchase (POP), posters, and pamphlets feature local Asakusa residents, photographed against a backdrop representative of each individual, clearly conveying the townscape and atmosphere of Asakusa. The visuals are designed to inspire Asakusa residents to wear LifeWear in their daily lives and enjoy fashion.

■Collaboration initiatives with local residents launch one after another in preparation for the opening of UNIQLO Asakusa

In preparation for the opening of UNIQLO Asakusa, a number of collaboration initiatives will be launched to liven up the Asakusa area together with local residents.

Jumbo Melon Bread Wrapping Paper
First up, we will be collaborating with Asakusa Kagetsudo Main Store, famous for its jumbo melon bread, from April 26th, the day before Golden Week. Asakusa Kagetsudo's hugely popular Jumbo Melon Bread is crunchy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, sure to captivate anyone. For a limited time, the wrapping paper for these Janpo Melon Pans will be decorated with UNIQLO designs and sold.

The second project is a collaboration with rickshaw operators "Jidaiya" and "Tokyo Rickshaw." From April 30th to May 30th, rickshaw drivers, who are synonymous with Asakusa, will be cruising around the streets of Asakusa wearing happi coats featuring the UNIQLO Asakusa logo. Rickshaws, which provide various information about Asakusa, are an essential part of enjoying Asakusa, with options including a casual 10-minute ride and a sightseeing course that gives an in-depth look at the city's history.

Comment from Jidai-ya:
We hope that this will create a new UNIQLO whirlwind in Asakusa, a town of culture and tourism that has been hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic. Let's liven up Asakusa together!

Comment from Tokyo Rikisha: We hope that the opening of UNIQLO Asakusa will bring even more vitality to Asakusa! We are happy that we can all work together to liven up Asakusa!

Original UNIQLO Asakusa T-shirts and coasters
In addition to the above, we are also planning collaborative projects with local people to help promote the opening of UNIQLO Asakusa. We will be running a variety of events leading up to the opening, such as having nearby stores use coasters with the UNIQLO logo and having staff wear the T-shirts.
