FUNATSURU KYOTO KAMOGAWA RESORT (hereinafter referred to as "our resort"), a facility operated by VMG HOTELS & UNIQUE VENUES, a group brand of Value Management Co., Ltd., is pleased to announce that it will begin offering "kawadoko" dining, a Kyoto tradition, from May 1, 2021 to September 30, 2021.
As you enter Kiyamachi-dori along the Kamo River from Shijo Kawaramachi, you will find yourself in a charming space lined with Kyoto's most famous long-established stores. As you walk down the street, admiring the cityscape, our resort will come into view. Passing through the modern stone entrance, you will be greeted by a beautiful bamboo archway and a view that evokes the dignity of a former ryokan (traditional Japanese inn) founded approximately 150 years ago.
Kyoto - Daytime Kawadoko
Kyoto has long had a culture known as "Kawahara no Suzumi," where summer-only restaurants are set up on the river to escape the heat and enjoy a meal. At our hotel, you can enjoy the "kawadoko," a Kyoto summer tradition, from May to September every year.
Lunch was usually only available in May and September, but due to the recent COVID-19 pandemic and increased demand for open seating that avoids the three Cs, this year it is now available from May to September.
The comfortable riverside seating, with large sunshades and ample seating space, is a special place where you can experience Kyoto's summer with your whole body, including the murmuring of the Kamo River, the lush greenery of the Higashiyama mountain range, the chirping of summer insects, and the refreshing breeze.
Enjoy Kyoto French cuisine made with plenty of Kyoto summer specialties such as sweetfish and conger eel, and savor summer Kyoto with all your senses.

About FUNATSURU KYOTO KAMOGAWA RESORT

Funazuru, a traditional Japanese inn with a rich history, was founded in 1870. With a history of around 150 years, the building, which stands on the banks of Kyoto's Kamo River, was constructed in 1922. The five-story, purely Japanese-style building has been designated a nationally registered tangible cultural property. While the hotel has been redesigned to breathe a modern breath, the indescribable flavor that has been cultivated over the years remains intact. In the summer, Kyoto's traditional "kawadoko" (river deck) is held (May to September), where you can enjoy cuisine made with local ingredients such as Kyoto vegetables, and spend a relaxing time feeling the changing seasons as you gaze upon the Kamo River flowing before you and the ridges of Higashiyama.
