Our Thursday series features must-read books from each branch of the art bookshop NADiff. This week's featured work is "Yusuke Asai Art Works 2011-2015: Created Here." It's presented by Gallery 5, our Shinjuku branch in Tokyo (3-20-2 Nishi-Shinjuku, Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo Opera City Tower, 3F). ■ "Yusuke Asai Art Works 2011-2015: Created Here"

Yusuke Asai creates paintings in a variety of locations, both indoors and outdoors, using art materials such as soil, water, and masking tape. This long-awaited first collection of his works is packed with illustrations, allowing you to appreciate not only the overall spatial sense of his works, but also his unique, unrestrained yet delicate lines and shapes, from page to page. This book features works from locations around the world, from Yoyogi Park to a small village in India. The title, "Made in This Place," reflects the gratitude and respect for the people and materials that exist only in that place and at that time that underlies his work, regardless of the country or scale. This can also be seen in the artist notes written by Asai himself at the end of the book.

Asai's works, which connect nature and place, are like stories in themselves. What kind of "place" will this story be woven in next? Reading this book will build up anticipation.
