Takuya Kimura's Comment
"I'm very excited that this collaboration with Ray-Ban has come to fruition and we're now able to deliver it to you."
"I'm very excited that this collaboration with Ray-Ban has come to fruition and we're now able to deliver it to you.""My first encounter with Ray-Ban was when I saw Tom Cruise wearing teardrop-shaped aviators in the movie 'Top Gun' as a teenager. I was so inspired by his look that I've been wearing them ever since. For my first collaboration, I chose a pair of aviators that I have a special attachment to, along with a Japanese-made titanium frame and lens color. The lenses are photochromic and UV-sensitive, so I hope people will use them as a fashion accessory to express their style in a variety of situations, both indoors and outdoors."
––––––––What are your impressions and memories of Ray-Ban?
For me, sunglasses and Ray-Ban are inextricably linked. It's the brand worn by people I admire, like characters in movies I've seen and my favorite musicians, so it was only natural that I would fall in love with the same things.
–––––––What were the key points you focused on in the "RAY-BAN x TAKUYA KIMURA" collaboration?
First of all, I made sure they were things I would want to wear and things I would want. Another reason was that I was a little concerned that wearing sunglasses in front of someone older than you could be considered rude in Japanese culture, so I made them thin enough so that the expression in your eyes could be seen even when you were wearing them.
––––––––What were the key points you focused on in the limited edition aviator sunglasses?
The lenses are photochromic, meaning they react to UV light and darken when exposed to it. They created exactly what I wanted: sunglasses that can be worn when communicating indoors and that can be worn outside as they sense UV rays and darken the lenses to protect your eyes.
–––––––Have you ever seen a scene in a movie or other movie that made you think sunglasses were cool?
When I was in junior high school, I saw Ray-Ban teardrop sunglasses in the American movie "Top Gun," and I also saw my favorite hard rock band members wearing teardrop sunglasses on their CD and record covers and while performing, and I was fascinated by them.
