Mizuno will release the shoes worn by Honda Keisuke (AC Milan, Italy), a member of the Japan national team at the FIFA World Cup Brazil, since their national team match on May 27th, on June 14th. The shoes, the Mizuno Wave Ignitus3 MD (19,000 yen), feature a dazzling gold design. The design evokes Honda's goal of winning the World Cup, likening it to the shining golden trophy. Mizuno also developed the shoes in collaboration with the University of Tsukuba. The design is designed to facilitate vertical spin kicks, and the height and width of the spikes change depending on the contact point between the ball and the spike and the angle of the foot during the kick, allowing for vertical spin kicks over both long and short distances. Compared to shoes without spikes, the shoes reportedly increase the ball's spin rate by 17%.
Honda commented, "I think most people who play sports associate the color gold with winning. For me, too, it is a color that evokes a very glorious image. I chose the color gold at the time of the World Cup because I wanted to align it with the goal of winning."
A total of nine models in the "IGNITUS3" series, including the model worn by Honda, will be sold at Mizuno soccer retailers nationwide. The WAVE IGNITUS3 MD worn by Honda will also be sold at Morelia stations nationwide.
