LOEWE will be showcasing new bags and furniture at the Salone del Mobile, Milan, running until April 17th. The new collection, "Marquetry in Leather," is a new project conceived by Creative Director Jonathan Anderson. It reinterprets the traditional craft of marquetry and modernizes early 20th-century vintage furniture using LOEWE's signature leather. Cutouts of leather are inlaid into the furniture's wood surfaces, creating motifs inspired by centuries-old Japanese wooden folding screens and silk prints from the LOEWE archives. Each motif has been enlarged and abstracted for a contemporary look, and various types of leather were used to create a painterly effect with varied textures and contrasting elements. This technique is also being used on notebooks and leather pouches, which will be available in stores soon, along with lamps and cigar cases.

Also announced was a bag finished with the "inlay" technique, in which thin, finely cut leather pieces are fitted together with precise cutting techniques to create a print-like effect. Boldly colored tulips and a carp motif, an adaptation of the design of the wooden folding screen used in the furniture, are depicted in leather.
