To celebrate the brand's 170th anniversary, LOEWE launched the Craft Prize on April 12th, a contest to recognize outstanding craftsmanship. The aim of the contest is to support promising artisans by reaffirming the value and beauty of handcrafts in a modern, contemporary way. Starting this spring, online submissions will be accepted from around the world for one year, with the winner receiving a prize of 50,000 euros (approximately 6 to 7 million yen). Promoting modern crafts, LOEWE will release the second collaborative collection with British textile designer John Allen in mid-May. John Allen is a textile designer active in a wide range of fields, including illustrator and painter. He has also collaborated with LOEWE designer Jonathan Anderson on Anderson's own brand, J.W. Anderson. This time, Jon Allen's signature pop and nostalgic color tones from his "Lost Dog" and "Stonehenge" pieces are fused with cutting-edge technology and expert craftsmanship to create bags (from ¥120,000), silk (from ¥49,600), towels, key rings, and more. The collection embodies Loewe's "modern craft" philosophy by making the most of the inlay technique, which involves precisely cutting thin, finely cut leather pieces and fitting them together seamlessly. Regarding the collaboration, Jon Allen said, "Jonathan Anderson is extremely sensitive to shapes, forms, and colors. When I saw his reaction when he first saw my carpets, I knew I had succeeded. He saw my carpets as designs for moving objects and three-dimensional forms. Thanks to him, I was able to see my work in a different light."
