A tunnel projecting the past, present, and future. A digital work by Samsung Electronics and New York design studio Black Egg.

Apr 21, 2016

New York-based design studio Black Egg has teamed up with South Korean manufacturer Samsung to present "Samsung Social Galaxy," an installation offering a completely new experience.

Black Egg is a design studio founded by Kenzo Digital and Lucas Wersaine, and has previously attracted attention for its collaboration on music videos with Beyoncé.

The installation is shaped like a tunnel through which visitors walk. The walls of the tunnel are entirely made of Samsung screens. Visitors begin by entering their Instagram account details. After doing so, photos they have posted are displayed on all the screens on the walls of the tunnel. As they walk through the tunnel, they hear male and female voices read out the hashtags they have posted. Finally, a collage made of images and text extracted from their Instagram feed is displayed on all the screens.

After passing through the tunnel, visitors arrive at a section where they can take their own photos. The photos they take are then projected onto the wall as a giant mosaic. The mosaic will be made using Instagram photos posted by the artist and those of people who have visited "Samsung Social Galaxy" in the past. The installation can be experienced at the Samsung 837 showroom in New York until May 1st.
