Each bookstore will act as a concierge, recommending "must-read books" to FASHION HEADLINE readers. Every Thursday, each branch of the art bookshop "NADiff" will introduce a recommended book. This time, we'll be introducing the Shinjuku branch, Gallery 5 (3F, Tokyo Opera City Tower, 3-20-2 Nishi-Shinjuku, Shinjuku-ku). ■ "Ryan McGinley: Body Loud!" Photographer Ryan McGinley held a solo exhibition at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York in 2003 at the young age of 25, and has since become an icon of the contemporary photography scene, attracting attention from a variety of genres, including music and fashion. This book is the official catalog for his first solo exhibition at a Japanese museum, currently being held at the Tokyo Opera City Art Gallery. It features 50 works selected by the artist himself, spanning his earliest to most recent series.
Young people frolicking in the majestic natural scenery of idyllic rural landscapes and snow-covered winter mountains, as well as young people standing in front of the camera seeking self-expression despite being tossed about by the waves of urban youth culture and the underground scene - the comfortable yet slightly wistful nostalgia that permeates all of the works, taken in a variety of environments, inevitably captures the hearts of viewers. This book is filled with beautiful, free, and sometimes radical moments filled with the brilliance of life. We encourage you to pick it up while basking in the afterglow of the exhibition.
The exhibition will be held from April 16th to July 10th.
