Italian furniture brand "DeCastelli," which was a hot topic at Milan Salone, opens its first showroom in Japan

Mar 28, 2021
Aichi Metals Co., Ltd. has acquired the exclusive Japanese sales rights for De Castelli, a luxury metal brand founded in Treviso, northern Italy, at the end of the 19th century, and is pleased to announce the opening of a Tokyo showroom at the Tokyo Design Center.

De Castelli boasts an impressive presence thanks to its beautiful metal surface treatment and processing techniques. This first-ever location in Japan, the Tokyo Design Center, is housed in a renowned building designed by Italian architect Mario Bellini, with interior design by designer Tobia Scarpa, son of renowned architect Carlo Scarpa. This stunning showroom will feature De Castelli's special furniture and wall panels, marking its permanent location following pop-ups at Isetan Shinjuku and Mitsukoshi Nihonbashi last month.

About De Castelli
De Castelli's history dates back to the late 19th century. Originally an Italian blacksmith, like Lamborghini, it produced agricultural machinery. In 2003, Albino Cerrato, the fourth generation of the company, became CEO, and with the help of skilled artisans with extensive metalworking knowledge, the company boldly expanded into the field of elegant metal furniture. At the same time, the company is challenging itself beyond furniture to develop custom materials and objects. Today, DeCastelli is internationally renowned for combining the expressive power of design with the sophisticated techniques of artisans. Perhaps their most notable project in Italy is "Archimbuto," the monumental entrance sculpture for the Italian Pavilion at the Venice Architecture Biennale, designed by Italian architectural icon Cino Zucchi. Its quality and value have earned it a reputation for what began as a temporary installation and is now a permanent fixture. Their expertise in aged metal finishing has earned them acclaim from numerous architects and renowned brands, and they are used in numerous brand stores. DeCastelli's headquarters are in Crocetta del Montello, where they have ample production facilities and material warehouses. Along with their showroom in Milan, they clearly demonstrate the importance they attach to design, manufacturing, and customer care.

The story leading up to the launch in Japan
Sales in Japan began when Yamada, the representative director of Aichi Metals, came across DeCastelli at the Milano Salone in Italy while traveling around the world in his pursuit of metal processing technology and was so impressed that he came across DeCastelli. Aichi Metals originally possessed similar technology, which had also been highly praised by many architects. Furthermore, Aichi Metals and DeCastelli shared a very similar approach to technology, which led Aichi Metals to obtain exclusive sales rights in Japan and develop the brand. DeCastelli is a well-established high-end brand with a showroom in Milan. While contracts are usually the domain of trading companies, the decision to entrust the company's development in Japan to Aichi Metals was a move that demonstrates the closeness and affinity between the two companies' thinking. Our first Tokyo showroom is now open, featuring a wide selection of beautiful, one-of-a-kind metal furniture. We hope you will come and experience the de Castelli philosophy for yourself.

About Aichi Metal
Aichi Metal Co., Ltd. was founded in 1985 in Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture, as a manufacturer of metal fixtures. Based on our corporate philosophy of "pursuing the possibilities of metal and challenging ourselves to create new value through metal," we have an in-house production system that handles everything from blueprint creation to manufacturing of architectural metal products such as gates, stairs, and handrails. Our products, which combine the superior technical skills of our skilled craftsmen with sophisticated design, have been adopted in a wide range of fields, including luxury homes, condominiums, hotels, and commercial facilities. We have worked on numerous architectural projects with renowned architects and designers from around the country, including architect Hiroshi Nakamura, who said, "I'm fascinated by Aichi Metal's technology for transforming materials into something that expresses the passage of time."

There are many different types of metal, and when combined with alloys, the number is truly countless. By combining these with techniques such as surface treatment, bending, and assembly, we can create an almost infinite number of variations. However, discovering new forms of expression is not easy. Without the constant discovery of new technologies and methods, the door to new possibilities remains open. Therefore, Aichi Metal is constantly on the lookout for new technologies beyond the realm of metals, and continues to take on the challenge of incorporating them into our company's technology. We aspire to be an organization that continually strives for ever-greater design and technological excellence.
