
The 2014 CFDA Fashion Awards, hosted by the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) and often referred to as the "Oscars of the fashion world," took place at Lincoln Center in New York on June 3rd. Musician Rihanna, who won the Fashion Icon Award, appeared in a see-through dress adorned with sparkling crystals. Lady Gaga also won the same award in 2011. Dior artistic director Raf Simons won the International Award. Sidney Toledano, president and CEO of Christian Dior Couture, served as presenters alongside Marion Cotillard. The Designer of the Year awards went to Maxwell Osborne and Dao-Yi Chow of Public School in the menswear category, Joseph Altuzarra of Altuzarra in the womenswear category, and Ashley Olsen and Mary-Kate Olsen of The Row in the accessories category. Other award winners included Tim Coppens in the men's Designer of the Year award, sponsored by Swarovski, Shane Gabier and Christopher Peters of Creatures of the Wind in the women's Designer of the Year award, Irene Neuwirth in the accessories category, Paul Cavaco in the media category, Ruth Finley, founder of Fashion Calendar, who won the Board of Directors Tribute Award, Tom Ford, who received the Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his long-standing contributions to the fashion industry, and Bethann Hardison, who received the Founder's Award.
