The London-based DIY music event "MUSIC Liberation Zone w/Sofar Sounds TOKYO" will be held from April 29th to May 4th in the Living Room/Furniture area on the 5th floor of the main building of Isetan Shinjuku Main Store.
The "Sofar Sounds" in the event's name refers to a DIY music event that originated in London. It is inspired by "pop-up gigs" where artists are invited to private homes and other venues, and has become popular in over 220 cities around the world as an event where people can relax and enjoy music as if they were visiting a friend's living room. So far, the event has been held in two cities in Japan: Tokyo and Sapporo.
This time, Sofar Sounds will be held in collaboration with Sofar Sounds TOKYO, using the luxurious living room shop unique to Isetan Shinjuku Main Store as a live performance venue. The artists performing include British-trained punkish and cute ukulele player Annie The Clumsy on April 29th, musician Mugi Furukawa with a background in jazz, classical, and bossa nova on April 30th, Boston-born "chopstick piano" player Sami Elu on May 1st, Filipino-born, Japan-raised singer-songwriter Asuka on May 2nd, twin-vocal folky pop duo Lucky Old Sun on May 3rd, and Kai Takahashi-from Lucky Tapes, the solo project of Lucky Tapes lead vocalist and songwriter Kai Takahashi, on May 4th. Performances will start at 12 noon each day.
