On September 20th, Tokyu Land Corporation will begin construction on the "(tentative) Ginza 5-chome Project," an urban commercial facility in Ginza 5-chome, Chuo Ward, which it has been preparing for some time.
The planned site is located at the corner of the Ginza/Sukiyabashi intersection, in a prime location surrounded by Harumi-dori, Nishiginza-dori (Sotobori-dori), Miyuki-dori, and Sukiya-dori. It is the former site of the Ginza TS Building, which housed Mosaic Ginza Hankyu and other establishments, and will be the company's first large-scale development in the Ginza area. It is scheduled to open in the fall of 2015.
The project's main theme is "creating a facility appropriate to the location, tailored to the needs of the area and its residents." It aims to create a new landmark for Ginza, which changes with the times, while also promoting to the world a new lifestyle born from the coexistence of tradition and innovation in the Ginza area. A large building with a total floor area of approximately 49,700 square meters will be constructed on a site of approximately 3,700 square meters, with 11 floors above ground and five below ground. Retail will be located on the second basement floor through the 11th floor, and it will be directly connected to Tokyo Metro Ginza Station via an underground concourse. The building's exterior design, created under the concept of a "vessel of light," is innovative and uses Edo Kiriko as its motif. It represents the building's role as a "vessel" that disseminates new information and culture while embracing diverse cultures, people, things, and events. Another major feature will be the creation of a shopping street approximately 115 meters wide, stretching from the main corner on the Sukiyabashi intersection side to Nishi Ginza Street. This will bring together multiple flagship stores, including those of global brands, and will become the new face of the Ginza area.
