The program, which takes place in UNESCO biosphere reserves and is supported by the French Apiculture Observatory (OFA), supports the development of female beekeepers from Russia to Ethiopia to Cambodia.
Scheduled to begin on June 21 at OFA's Sainte-Baume base in Provence, France, the 30-day training will attract 50 women from five UNESCO Biosphere Reserves each year over five years. Participants will acquire apiary management and other theoretical and practical foundations from OFA beekeepers. The goal is to empower women to become self-sufficient through expertise-driven, sustainable professional practices. Upon completion of the training, participants will have acquired the knowledge to manage apiaries and become professional beekeepers. They will also be able to share their knowledge and skills with other beekeepers and learn from each other as part of an international network of women beekeepers.
The project aims to establish 2,500 hives in 25 UNESCO Biosphere Reserves by 2025, expanding honeybees to 125 million bees. By the end of the year, 50 female beekeepers will have graduated from the program, receiving training and support to establish their beekeeping businesses while participating in socially beneficial projects.

I can't wait to get to know them and learn about their cultures, environments, and the role bees play in them. "I hope that 'Women for Bees' will help female beekeepers become independent and improve their local communities." - Angelina Jolie
