Louis Vuitton today announced the latest update on its ongoing collaboration with (RED), the nonprofit organization founded in 2006 by Bono of U2 and Bobby Shriver of the international NGO DATA to combat AIDS and now actively working to combat COVID-19. This year marks (RED's) 15th anniversary, and Louis Vuitton is supporting the fight against two devastating global pandemics: AIDS and COVID-19, through the auction of a prototype of the Louis Vuitton I (RED) Trainer.

Signed personally by Louis Vuitton Men's Artistic Director Virgil Abloh, these sneakers are a rare and one-of-a-kind item, with only one pair in existence in the world. The size is a men's size 9 UK, Louis Vuitton's standard prototype shoe size. The side grid, which was a bright red color in the prototype, was adjusted by Virgil Abloh to white for the initial production run.
This unique pair will be offered in a single-lot, online-only auction on Sothebys.com. Bidding will begin February 22 and run until March 4, with an estimated price of $30,000-$40,000. There is no reserve price, and all proceeds from the sale will be donated to support the Global Fund's life-saving efforts. The piece will be on display in Sotheby's New York gallery and available for preview by appointment.

Virgil Abloh said, "As a designer, I am incredibly proud to be able to use my creativity and design to effect positive change. My partnership with (RED) to auction my Louis Vuitton I (RED) Trainer sneakers at Sotheby's aims to support the fight against AIDS and COVID-19."
Jen Lotito, President and COO of (RED), said, "Virgil's creative talent and support of (RED)'s work are inspiring, demonstrating that the combination of art and philanthropy can have a truly profound impact. (RED) is honored to partner with Louis Vuitton, Virgil Abloh, and the Sotheby's team to present this exciting auction, with the goal of supporting the mission of fighting AIDS and COVID-19."

The LV Trainer has been an iconic Louis Vuitton men's sneaker since it debuted in Virgil Abloh's Spring/Summer 2019 show, his first as Louis Vuitton Men's Artistic Director. With a silhouette evoking a nostalgic ambiance and accented with lines inspired by basketball shoes, the Louis Vuitton I (RED) Trainer features an embossed Monogram motif on white leather and vibrant red piping and details. The Monogram Flower on the sole adds a finishing touch to the design. Crafted in Italy, the Louis Vuitton I (RED) Trainer is an innovative piece that embodies (RED)'s unique character and powerful message while featuring Louis Vuitton's signature codes.
Since 2008, Sotheby's and (RED) have hosted several groundbreaking, high-profile auctions that have raised a total of approximately $80 million to fight AIDS.
