To mark the 100th anniversary of Tokyo Station's opening, the Tokyo Station City Management Council, Isetan Mitsukoshi, Daimaru Matsuzakaya, Takashimaya, and Mitsui Fudosan jointly launched an event on October 11th that takes visitors around Tokyo and the Nihonbashi area. An opening ceremony was held by the five parties on the first day of the event.
This event commemorates the full opening of the Yaesu Exit Station Plaza, which was being developed as a gateway to the Yaesu and Nihonbashi areas, in preparation for Tokyo Station's 100th anniversary on December 20th this year. The purpose of the event is to allow visitors to experience how close Tokyo Station is to Nihonbashi, making it easy to stroll between the two areas. The event will run until December 20th. This event, titled "Let's Walk! Tokyo Station - A 100-Year Stroll Through Nihonbashi," will be held at five locations: Tokyo Station, Daimaru Tokyo, Nihonbashi Takashimaya, Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi Main Store, and the Nihonbashi Information Center (COREDO Muromachi). A free walking map of the Tokyo Station to Nihonbashi area and limited-edition commemorative replica hard tickets will be distributed as a novelty. The walking map features Edo, Taisho, and present-day maps of Tokyo Station, Yaesu, and Nihonbashi, along with long-established stores and historical attractions, allowing participants to enjoy their stroll as if they were traveling through history. At the opening ceremony held on the first day of the event, attendants from each company unveiled the large commemorative replica hard tickets, and JR East Tokyo Stationmaster Takashi Eto pointed to the tickets, cheered, and gave the signal to depart. After the ceremony, a former station employee stamped the commemorative replica hard tickets. Next month, from November 4th to November 30th, an event will be held at Tokyo Station where characters representing each department will gather. Mitsukoshi's "Mitsukoshi Lion Statue," which is celebrating its 100th anniversary since its installation, JR East's "Suica Penguin," Daimaru Matsuzakaya's "Sakura Panda," and Takashimaya's "Rose-chan" will all be on display at the "Silver Bell" meeting point on the first basement floor inside the ticket gates of Tokyo Station.
