On March 18th, unisex brand DRESSEDUNDRESSED presented their 2013-14 Autumn/Winter collection at Shibuya Hikarie. The designers, Takeshi Kitazawa and Emiko Sato, were inspired by the 1983 vampire film "The Hunger," starring David Bowie and Catherine Deneuve. The show began with a red slash video projected on the signage dividing the center of the venue. The first look featured a women's model in a black suit with a triple belt around the waist. A mix of men and women then presented suits, shirts with detachable hoodies, wide slacks, leather pants, coats with leather sleeves, and blousons with numerous pockets. The show ended with a continuous red slash video projected on the signage. While previous collections have been monochrome, this time they incorporated red into the mix. They also created sunglasses with red lenses, custom-made for the German eyewear brand MYKITA.
The waist and belt of the pants are just right, but in contrast, a loose-fitting double-breasted coat with lowered buttons is also featured. The fleece lining of the coat has been processed to look like leather.
"The use of red was inevitable, as it is a vampire film. We thought about how to use it effectively in the order in which the items are presented and the direction. The curly hairstyle is a reference to Bowie's Berlin days in the 1980s. The waist position was also conscious of that era. The slashes in the video were inspired by the hanger scene. We deliberately expressed this image in the video rather than through the clothing. For the items, we interpreted the slash - or slashing - as an animalistic act, and incorporated it into the red sunglasses," said the designer, Kitazawa, and Sato.
