"Experience Spain" Exhibition at Isetan Shinjuku. From the first appearance at the Ogasawara Count's Residence to Sherry Club and Impromptu Opera!

Mar 3, 2016

From March 2nd to 7th, Isetan Shinjuku is hosting an "Interactive Spain Exhibition" in the store's main building's 6th floor event hall, offering live performances like flamenco, improvisational opera, and piano performances while enjoying a bar-style dining experience. Titled "Hola, Espana: Eat, Drink, Talk, Watch, Listen," the exhibition is a departure from traditional product exhibitions that simply sell products, offering an experience that can only be enjoyed at the venue. According to a store planner, "These days, simply displaying products is no longer enough to sell. We believe that, in this digital age, we need analog, interactive events that cannot be fully expressed through digital means. We placed importance on the 'live feeling' that can only be experienced at a venue, such as seeing top chefs perform live and listening to live music." A highlight of the venue is the bar-style eat-in area, where visitors can eat while walking around like in a food court. This is the first time that modern Spanish restaurant "Ogasawara Hakushakutei" has opened a location in Shinjuku, Tokyo. Chef Gonzalo Alvarez is offering a special course meal featuring Iberian pork from Barcelona's Iberian pork specialty restaurant, "Reserva Iberica" (limited to 80 dishes per day, 4,000 yen). "Fermincho," a Spanish home-style restaurant in Nishi-Azabu, Tokyo, is collaborating with popular Madrid restaurant "Jose Luis" to recreate the Spanish omelette tortilla recipe in a Japanese style. They are offering a five-item tapas platter (limited to 200 dishes per day, 1,600 yen). "Sherry Club," a sherry specialty restaurant in Ginza, Tokyo, boasts the world's largest selection of traditional Spanish sherry, and is offering a pairing set of three types of sherry paired with original tapas (limited to 100 dishes per day, 2,300 yen). Additionally, "Bardege," a restaurant in Toyosu, Tokyo, which has won awards at international paella competitions, will be offering a two-item paella platter (1,400 yen), where you can choose two from four different paella varieties to compare. There will also be plenty of events to delight the senses. Event booths at the venue will feature "Opera Restaurant La Favorita," featuring impromptu performances by opera soloists dressed as waiters, flamenco by the Yoko Komatsubara Spanish Dance Company, piano performances by Yasuzumi Nishizawa, acoustic performances by the TUNA band, and wine painting by Edgar Lizarazu, creating a Spanish cultural experience throughout the venue. Spanish groceries, wine and sherry, confectionery, crafts, and other products will also be available for purchase.
