Anrealage: Motifs emerge through filters, visualizing noise [Women's Fall/Winter 2016-17]

Mar 15, 2016

On March 1, the first day of Paris Fashion Week, Kunihiko Morinaga's ANREALAGE held its Fall/Winter 2016-17 collection show at the YOYO audiovisual space in the Palais de Tokyo. The designer's creative approach, which continues to amaze, surprise, and inspire, seems to grow stronger with each show. A transparent box covered in film was placed in the center of the runway, and models walked through it. The collection's theme was "noise." Monochrome motifs, reminiscent of television static, were applied to various materials, creating looks that evoked sound through the eyes. Square-shouldered tweed coats and Victorian-style jackets with puffy sleeves were paired with matching pants or knee-length skirts for a feminine and elegant look. A felt headpiece by hairstylist and makeup artist Kamo Katsuya and metal-heeled pumps gave the whole look a futuristic touch.

Midway through the show, looks featuring printed materials in which motifs emerged by overlaying transparent filters were introduced. As models approached transparent films installed on the runway, checkerboards, polka dots, flowers and other designs began to appear, delighting the audience.

Towards the end of the show, looks were seen coordinating striped-print PVC vests, harnesses and capes, suggesting items that allowed people to enjoy mysterious visual effects up close.
