Swiss Embassy to hold photo exhibition at Hiroshima Memorial Park to convey the reality of war

Nov 4, 2014

The Embassy of Switzerland in Japan, with the cooperation of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the support of the Hiroshima Cultural Center, will hold an outdoor photo exhibition, "The War We Saw," from November 26 to December 27 on the lawn in front of the East Building of the Peace Memorial Museum in Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park.

To commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Geneva Conventions and the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Switzerland, this exhibition looks back on the history of Swiss humanitarian aid and introduces the on-the-ground activities of the ICRC, known as the guardian and guardian of the Geneva Conventions.

Former ICRC employee and photographer Jean Mohr conveys the reality of war from the perspective of those living in war zones. Mohr's work for the ICRC and UN agencies, where he came into contact with people deprived of their freedom during wartime, led him to become a humanitarian photographer, discovering the drama of each individual's life. This time, he will capture the daily lives of people affected by war through his camera lens and promote the importance of humanitarian aid. The exhibition was planned and supervised by the Elysee Museum of Photography in Lausanne, Switzerland.
