[Zawachin/Beauty] What is the secret to her beautiful skin that supports her high-quality imitation makeup?

Nov 1, 2014

"The Secrets of Shining Women" is an interview series showcasing women who excel in a variety of fields, from work to home. Our ninth installment features Zawa-chin, a highly sought-after media personality who has wowed the world with her celebrity makeup impersonations. We spoke to Zawa-chin about her dedication to makeup and beauty, as well as her collaboration with ISETAN MiRROR, which will be released in November. --You always talk about your makeup, but you look beautiful without it, too. What's your secret to maintaining beautiful skin? Even on busy days, I consciously make time to rest my skin without makeup. Since I have sensitive skin, anything too extreme can actually make it worse, so I prioritize basic skincare like moisturizing. I also pay close attention to sleep and intestinal health, which can easily affect the skin. --I hear you're in high demand on TV and in magazines every day, but how do you get through those days? On my days off, I have a full-body beauty day, getting a full-body massage at a chiropractor and visiting a hair salon or nail salon for intensive maintenance. Since makeup strains my eyes and I often keep my arms up, I make sure to massage my neck and shoulders thoroughly. I hurt my back playing volleyball in college, so I like to leave it to a trusted professional to refresh myself. --I'm surprised you learned your makeup techniques on your own. Do you have any tips for improving? Good makeup requires a good base of skin and well-defined eyebrows and eyeliner. Eyebrows, in particular, are crucial for determining the overall impression of your face. If you want to look more mature, draw thin, well-defined brows. Conversely, if you want to look more youthful, draw thick, parallel brows to create the desired impression. Also, I think keeping your facial bone structure, whether round or long, will affect the final makeup look. --You probably meet a lot of people at work. Is there anyone who has influenced you?

I've spoken with beauty expert IKKO and makeup artist Soah, and I'm truly grateful for the many heartfelt words they gave me. I feel like I'm still small and weak, so their encouraging words to believe in myself really made an impression on me. I have a lot of respect for both of them.

--So, who would you like to meet?

Michelle Phan is from America. She hosts globally popular makeup videos on YouTube. Her Taylor Swift-style makeup looks are so entertaining to watch. Her videos inspired me to perfect my own makeup look.

--Your blog also focuses on fashion. What kind of clothes do you like? What kind of fashion would you like to try this fall?

I like simple, feminine, and cool styles. I often wear black and white, but this fall I'd like to try fashion incorporating burgundy colors. I'm currently in the mood for mature, elegant fashion, choosing burgundy or beige with a brown slant. I also like Korean brand clothes, and when I visit Korea, I enjoy shopping at Dongdaemun.

In the second half, we'll ask about your collaboration with Isetan Mirror.
