The Miraikan (National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation) will be hosting a special exhibition, "teamLab: Dancing! Art Exhibition and Learn! Future Amusement Park," from November 29th. teamLab is a group of technologists, comprised of a diverse group of creators, from programmers to architects and graphic designers. They continue to create contemporary art using cutting-edge technology, including high-definition displays and projection mapping. This exhibition will showcase teamLab's artworks and also offer a glimpse into the behind-the-scenes aspects of their creative process. One of their most notable works is "Nirvana," a 5-meter-tall, 20-meter-wide display that recreates the "square painting" of the Edo period. This painting technique involves painting countless squares across the entire screen, then coloring each individual square to complete the picture. Its functional limitations are reminiscent of pixel art, still popular in the computer graphics world, and it cleverly incorporates the phenomenon of "visual blending," in which adjacent colors appear to blend from a distance. Other exhibits include "Light in Dark," which brings animation's deformations into three-dimensional space, tracking the flight of a luminous Yatagarasu from various perspectives. Based on traditional Japanese spatial perception, the exhibition also features "Life Lives on the Power of Life," a sumi-e painting painted in space, and "Cold Life," which strips away the texture to reveal the painting as a body of information. A new piece, "Untitled," will be shown for the first time, an installation in which flowers bloom and scatter using a computer program. Another highlight of this exhibition is the amusement park, which brings together interactive play equipment. Children's drawings are used in "3D Drawing Town," where cars race through a 3D city, and in "Drawing Aquarium," fish swim around in tanks. In the "Light Ball Orchestra," where countless balls of various sizes roll around, everyone can play together and play together by hitting the balls to make sounds and changing their colors.
This art exhibition, which can be enjoyed by children and adults alike, is a world first for teamLab. As it is the first large-scale exhibition in Japan, it is likely to be popular with many art fans and families this winter.
