MA deshabille's limited-time salon at Shinjuku Isetan, where you can create your own unique piece using vintage fabrics and buttons

Mar 3, 2017

"Bespoke Creation MA deshabille," a pop-up shop currently running at Re-Style on the third floor of the Isetan Shinjuku Main Building, allows customers to customize cuffs and collars using vintage fabrics from Paris and buttons and other parts from designer deadstock to create one-of-a-kind garments. The garments, crafted using selected vintage fabrics and deadstock parts, exude an elegant atmosphere reminiscent of an actress in a movie scene.

Bespoke Creation MA deshabille, part of Isetan Mitsukoshi's "Only MI" campaign, launched on March 1st, is an initiative launched by Isetan Mitsukoshi to focus on "personalization" as a countermeasure to the fashion industry's growing trend toward mass production and mass consumption. Fukuru, a platform for customizing clothing using IT, has teamed up with designer Akiko Murata, a graduate of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, to propose bespoke creations. Akiko Murata's MA deshabille (meaning "loungewear" in French) is a brand of loungewear and sleepwear. The pop-up offers a service where customers can customize Murata's designs with vintage fabrics and accessories sourced from Paris, Antwerp, London, Morocco, and elsewhere to create their own unique pieces. Five styles, including gowns and tops, are available for customization. Customers can choose from over 50 fabrics and customize the length and sleeves to create a truly unique look. "We've selected fabrics and patterns that blend in with the interiors of historic European rooms, creating a slightly dressy, decorative nightgown. We offer a variety of styles, including vintage scarves, costume buttons used at La Scala in Milan, and half-length kimono fabric from Fukuoka," says Murata. Customers can choose their fabric and accessories from samples at the salon, and their garments will be ready in approximately 60 days. The event will run until March 14th, and there will also be a talk event where designer Murata will give styling suggestions.
