On February 24th, TOD'S presented its Fall/Winter 2017-18 women's collection in Milan. Following the departure of previous creative director Alessandra Facchinetti, the brand's design team has taken over the entire collection.
This season's theme, "OPEN AIR," evokes a fresh, active feel, incorporating elements of outdoor activities and equestrianism. The collection's core elements are oversized outerwear, ranging from hooded long coats, ski jacket-style coats made with a mix of materials, leather down coats, and trench coats evocative of equestrianism. While the pieces are warm and functional, they retain a feminine touch with details such as stitching and color changes. The use of high-quality Italian leather and fabrics ensures a balanced, refined elegance.
Equestrian tack was evident throughout, with leather work pants cuffed at the waist and long boots. There were a few feminine pieces, including a draped nylon skirt and a knee-length leather skirt.
During the show, artist Thomas De Falco unveiled an installation called "WRAPPING." Inspired by ancient art, the avant-garde piece featured nude models tied to ropes made of white leather and wool, remaining motionless like still images, transforming them into art. Supermodel Naomi Campbell was also among the figures. Through the installation art and the collection, the collection reaffirmed the appeal of traditional, high-quality leather, which is part of Tod's DNA.
